Implant-supported dentures and how they support positive transformations in our patients’ lives

Implant-supported dentures (or “overdentures”) are changing the way that we replace teeth among patients with extensive needs for full-mouth reconstruction or rehabilitation. At Wes Park Family Dentistry, these truly transformative dentures may be supported by mini implants, an alternative to conventional artificial “tooth roots” to retain an upper or lower denture.

How do implants work?

Dental implants are designed and positioned in the jawbone to replace and function as tooth roots. They may be attached to a single crown, a dental bridge, or an upper or lower denture. Due to this versatility, they are appropriate for many different types of patients – from those missing one tooth to those missing most or all their teeth.

What are mini implants?

Like standard implants, each smaller-diameter implant is surgically positioned in the jaw to naturally “anchor” or join the neighboring bony tissue. With dentures, specialized attachments are placed underneath the appliance. These connectors then attach to the implants. When positioned in the mouth, dentures snap onto each implant. This design helps to keep the denture in place. Unlike standard implants, these “mini” counterparts are considered a less invasive alternative and are even an appropriate option for individuals with existing bone loss who are not good candidates or who do not want to undergo bone grafting to build up deteriorated tissues.

So, I could be a good candidate for implants even with bone loss?

Yes! In fact, patients who formerly had old, uncomfortable, or loose-fitting dentures find a new lease on life by stabilizing their appliance with mini implants. This approach provides a comfortable and functional solution and has been truly life-changing for our patients.

Why should I choose implants at Wes Park Family Dentistry?

There are several reasons! For starters, our patients in Perry, Georgia, walk much taller and exude confidence when they speak and eat with their new, retrofitted, precision-fit dentures. Like our many existing and satisfied patients, you will never have to worry about your “false teeth” losing their grip and slipping around while you are trying to enjoy a meal, engage in an important conversation, or simply socialize. You can also wave goodbye to persistent or recurrent problems with sores and discomfort caused by unsecured dentures, as these new teeth are not going anywhere!

The excellent fit of your denture and the appearance of your face are supported for life because this alternative not only replaces teeth but also keeps the bone in the jaw strong and dense. This bone’s strength must be retained for the denture to fit well. Due to the design of conventional dentures, the jawbone shrinks or resorbs. This process is avoided. So, your dentures continue to fit as well as the day they were placed (with good care), and the structural supports of your face are also retained.
