Partial dentures to complete your smile, full dentures to restore a broken smile

With our relationship-based approach, Wes Park Family Dentistry helps patients from across the Perry, Georgia, area to keep their teeth – not lose them. But when the unexpected happens, and tooth loss can’t be avoided, Dr. Bryce Westmoreland and our team are here for you in a big way! We offer both well-fitting conventional dentures as well as implant-supported dentures. So, if you are not acquainted with today’s denture appliances, it may be time to rethink your perception. We are happy to help you do that by answering a few basic questions about modern partial dentures (“partials”) and complete or full dentures.

What are my options for replacing many teeth?

The best option for you follows a consultation and depends on the state or condition of any existing teeth. If you still have some teeth that are healthy and can be preserved, “partials” may be an appropriate option. As their name suggests, this dental appliance is for the partial replacement of teeth. It does not replace all the teeth in the upper or lower jaws or arches like a complete or full upper or lower denture. The prosthetic teeth are attached to a metal framework that has also been color-matched to blend in with the surrounding gum tissue. The denture then clips, clasps, or otherwise attaches to the natural teeth, which then support the prosthetic teeth. Full dentures are supported by suction in the mouth. So, it is imperative that the denture conforms well to the surrounding tissues once you slip it into your mouth.

What about “immediate” dentures?

Yes, we do offer immediate dentures. These dentures can be placed, as you might suspect, immediately after the teeth have been removed or during the same appointment. There is a caveat: This initially placed denture is considered to be “provisional.” You will need to get a permanent denture designed and placed after the gums have healed and the swelling has gone down. Otherwise, the denture won’t fit as it should, which affects your comfort, chewing function, speech, and overall satisfaction with your new teeth.

They do take a commitment. But Wes Park Family Dentistry also sees this as yet another opportunity to have a healthy partnership with you. We work with our patients to ensure they adjust well and quickly to their new teeth. We also help them to maintain follow-up visits and regular appointments. So, we can be proactive about any adjustments that may need to be made to ensure the denture continues to fit well. We can also advise on any repairs that may be required for different components of your denture. If ongoing services to adjust to your denture and “upkeep” concern you, we’re happy to explore the possibility of dentures supported by dental implants.

FAQs

Will my dentures look natural?

Not at Wes Park Family Dentistry. Modern dentures are nothing like the bulky, artificial-looking appliances of the past. We customize your dentures to match your tooth shapes, facial features, skin tone, and smile proportions. When carefully placed, dentures become virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth. Smile, talk, and laugh without worrying about your teeth.

Should I sleep with my dentures?

We recommend that you remove your dentures at night. Taking them out allows your gums to rest and breathe. Keeping dentures in continuously can lead to gum irritation and infections. When not wearing your dentures, soak them in a glass of water or denture cleansing solution to prevent them from drying out.

Do I need to use denture adhesive?

Not always. Well-fitted dentures should stay in place without excessive adhesive. However, lower dentures can become loose due to tongue movement. These dentures may need a small amount of adhesive for extra stability. If you find yourself relying heavily on adhesive, it may indicate that your dentures need adjustment or relining.

How can I make my dentures more stable?

Stability depends on fit and jawbone support. Options to improve stability include relining or adjusting your existing denture or upgrading to implant-supported dentures. It’s also important to properly maintain your dentures to keep them in excellent condition.

How hard is it to eat and drink with dentures?

There is an adjustment period. Initially, we recommend softer foods while you adapt to chewing and speaking. Over time, most patients regain the ability to eat a wide range of foods. Implant-supported dentures provide even greater bite strength and stability.

Can I use glue to fix my denture if it breaks?

Do not attempt to glue a broken denture at home. Household adhesives are not safe for oral use and can further damage the appliance. If your denture cracks, chips, or breaks, contact our office promptly for professional repair.

How long do dentures last?

Dentures typically last 5–10 years. Over time, natural bone changes may affect the fit, requiring adjustments, relines, or replacement.

To maximize the lifespan of your dentures, you should:

  • Rinse your dentures with lukewarm water after taking them out
  • Clean your dentures daily with a soft brush and non-abrasive denture cleaner
  • Avoid toothpaste, as it can scratch the surface
  • Remove and soak your dentures overnight
  • Brush and floss the remaining teeth
  • Adhere to regular dental check-ups
  • Handle your dentures with care to avoid breakage

How much do dentures cost in Perry, GA?

There is no universal cost for dentures. That is because dentures are personalized, and their cost depends on several factors, including the materials used, the type of denture, and additional procedures such as extractions. Our office will provide a cost breakdown during your consultation. Rest assured, we won’t proceed with treatment until costs are clear.

Does insurance cover the cost of dentures?

Mostly yes. Dentures are considered medically possible, so they are likely covered by dental insurance. However, the exact coverage depends on your policy, deductibles, yearly limits, and waiting periods. Our team is happy to review your coverage and provide advice on the applicable benefits.

Where can I get top-tier dentures in Perry, GA?
