Transform Your Smile: The Benefits of Cosmetic Dentistry for Enhanced Beauty and Confidence
Wes Park Family Dentistry knows that a healthy smile is more than a thing of beauty. How our patients from across the Perry, Georgia, area feel about their appearance plays a big role in how they think of themselves. And, since the smile is such an undeniable feature of the face, the health/aesthetics of our teeth, gums, and the rest of the mouth can either help or hinder self-esteem and well-being. An attractive smile is a timeless and universally coveted feature that looks good on everyone! For these and still other reasons, Dr. Bryce Westmoreland takes cosmetic dentistry services for smile enhancement very seriously, and we are happy to introduce you to how we correct some of the most common cosmetic concerns in the following FAQs.
How is cosmetic dentistry different from other types of dental services?
It is important to distinguish between those treatments that are 100% cosmetic in nature and those that have a cosmetic component but are largely required to resolve damage and restore the affected tooth or tissues. For the former category of treatments, cosmetic options are motivated by the patient’s desire to improve the appearance of their teeth and gums. These services are considered elective because they are unnecessary to restore oral health or function.
What are some examples of cosmetic dentistry in action at your office?
Purely cosmetic options include professional teeth bleaching or whitening. This is one of the fastest ways to affordably and dramatically boost the appearance of your smile. We utilize the Opalescence™ whitening system, which consists of both in-office and take-home whitening products. For those who are unhappy with the appearance of chipped, gapped, oddly shaped, or irregularly sized teeth, we may recommend either dental bonding or porcelain veneers to address these imperfections. The gums that “frame” your teeth and contribute to the balanced appearance of your smile may also be reshaped.
What is the difference between bonding and veneers?
Bonding largely uses a tooth-colored material called composite resin to mask your dental imperfections. The material can be prepared, applied, and secured in one appointment without the need to remove enamel. So, it is also a conservative and fully reversible procedure. Veneers are most commonly made from dental porcelain. They are made by our lab and require two visits. During the first visit, a small amount of enamel is removed to make room for the veneer. Information about your tooth/teeth is also collected, which is then used to create your veneers. Once the permanent veneers are ready, they will be secured by Dr. Westmoreland to the front surfaces of the teeth. While they cost more upfront and require two visits, porcelain veneers are known for their natural appearance, durability, and stain resistance.
What if you find damage to my teeth during a cosmetic consultation?
This is where restorative dentistry services “with a cosmetic benefit” come into play. Depending on the extent of your damage, the affected teeth may be restored with an attractive metal-free filling, dental inlay, or a partial (onlay) crown or full-coverage dental crown. Our restorations are designed to not only last but also blend in beautifully and naturally with the surrounding teeth and the rest of your smile. Keep in mind that there is no smile quite like yours. So, no two smile enhancements are the same. Call Wes Park Family Dentistry at (478) 488-3561 today to start the process of getting your most comfortable smile in Perry, GA.
